“‘The Promise of Water’ is as graceful as it is powerful —
a bracing and heart-breaking plunge into the mystery of identity, the boundlessness of love.”
Richard Adams Carey, author of IN THE EVIL DAY, THE PHILOSOPHER FISH, and AGAINST THE TIDE

“It’s the writing that teaches you.”
― Isaac Asimov

Do you have a child that loves to write? Or one that would like to gain more confidence in his or her writing? My after-school writing workshops are designed help eager writers blossom and reluctant writers find their voices.

Currently, I am in the process of becoming a Writopia-accredited writing instructor. The Writopia method works because the participants are able to relax, brainstorm, experiment with writing exercises, laugh, and freely write in the genres they wish.

“I just wanted to send you a huge note of thanks for all of your incredible counsel you provided my son this past year. We got his end-of-year test results today, and we are thrilled! He did outstanding on his writing assessment, and we owe so much of that to you!”      Nancy B., Parent
Kids and teens enjoy individual attention, fun writing games, laptops/iPads, customized feedback, and the satisfaction of completing a wonderful original piece.

Writopia workshops are available to all young writers, grades 4-12, at Canterbury School, where students have access to a high-quality learning environment and the technology they need. If you’d like to offer your student a Writopia Workshop experience, please reach me via the Contact page.

Proof that Writopia works

I selected Writopia not only for the method employed, but also based on the successes of their student writers. In each of the past six years, Writopia students have won more recognition for their writing than any other group of students in the nation.

“I really appreciate your Writopia program. Lavanya really looks forward to it and enjoys it a lot. She says, ‘It opens me up inside.’ I was really touched by that. Thank you for the difference that you are making in her life!”     Arina L., Parent
I am thrilled to be in the process of becoming fully certified so that I can offer the Writopia approach to students right here in the Triad.

Reluctant Writers

In addition to nurturing a community of enthusiastic writers, Writopia is well known for helping the reluctant or hesitant writer blossom and for addressing parents’ concern that their child has great ideas, but a tough time organizing thoughts into coherent stories.

“Thank you again for all you have done with my son and the others this year. I can see a world of change in his writing and you have certainly nurtured his love for learning!”     Tricia F., Parent

“My daughter has learned so much from you, and I swear all of her writing skills come from you! She did so well on the ERB WRAP writing test – and it’s all because of you! Thank you for everything!”     Mindy O., Parent

The Writopia method helps young people navigate the rocky waters between idea and story.
Parents have shared their feedback on the Writopia method here.

Writopia’s mission includes:

*  Providing young people with the creative inspiration and intellectual environment that may not be available to them at school.
*  Helping each student become comfortable with expressing himself on paper and to ultimately cultivate (or maintain) a love of writing.
*  Providing an open, safe, and nurturing space for young people who are highly engaged in creative and intellectual endeavors and for young people who struggle with verbal and written expression.
